Book Review of Max Lucado's Inspirational Reader

The Lucado Inspirational Reader by Max Lucado
Hope and Encouragement for Your Everyday Life is what the cover of this book reads and is very true.

This book is broken up into chapters on the Bible, the Church, the Cross, Encouragement, Faith, Family, Forgiveness, Hope, Peace, Prayer and more. Each chapter is about 10 pages long and is broken down into different thoughts or quotes.

Anytime you feel at a loss or need help in one of the areas covered in the chapters, pick up this book and do a little reading, sometimes just a short quote. Read them over and over. Let them sink in.

A great book to pick up with your Bible readings...when you see a Bible passage, look it up and read more about it. Take the book with you to have access to read a few pages whenever you waiting (doctor's office comes to mind). A keepsake for years to come.

I enjoy scrapbooking and have found some quotes in here I can use on my scrapbooking pages. If you choose to use any, make sure you give credit to the author.

What is unconditional love? This novel by Kim Cash Tate portrays two main characters, Heather and Kelly. Both girls have gone through tough times, leading totally different lives. These two gals end up being the best of friends and find love. Love in their lives, love of family, love of Christ, love of each other.

Read how Kelly's large family gets involved with both of their lives, even if they don't really want to. Heather's smaller family plays an important roll in her life too.

Both gals have boyfriends. Kelly has a current boyfriend and a past friend/boyfriend with a complicated background. Heather has many boyfriends and needs to get past that part of her life. Can she do it?

This book is wonderful. I love the portrayal of the Gospel and of Christ. I love the character who is so strong in her faith and leads the gals in their own faith. I love the song writer who portrays the Gospel in his songs and has to stand up for what he believes. It truly is a faith based book.

I want to get this album done for my son and DIL! I need to keep working on it! Sound convincing? I hope so!!! LOL

I loved the blues in this kit, which is my color theme for the wedding album.

So the story goes like this...

The girls were outside getting some photos taken before the ceremony. Rayna's grandmother also was outside sitting in a chair watching the girls. (the two layouts below)
A few photos were taken outside...then a huge storm blew in, see the wedding was supposed to take place OUTside! Mother Nature had a different plan for us that day, thank goodness we had a back up plan!
The guys literally torn down everything out back in 10 minutes before it down poured!
We moved the wedding to another location, INside.

Book Review: Max on Life

"Max on Life" by Max Lucado

I do like Max Lucado, I have one of his small Grace books and enjoy reading it daily. I have also receive his emails and enjoy reading them.

His book "Max on Life" answers 172 questions sent to him via emails, letters or asked to him in person. Each question has at least one page to itself with an answer from the writer. Most answers refer to scripture.

The question themes vary from Why am I here?, Why me?, Why church?, Do we get second chances?, Who goes where? (heaven or hell), and much more.

This book is a great read and a great tool to keep around for going back to questions and rereading them. I would love to get this book on my computer (or some day a reader).

Oh, there are two indexes in the back of the book that I suggest you look at, great way to look up things quickly. Topical index, look up questions/answers on topics, and Scripture index.

Our third Eagle Scout

Our third son, Keith, became an eagle scout last December and his Court of Honor was in April. Here are some layouts I did for his scrapbook...and yes, I have photos I need to scrap from the court of honor.

From fifth grade...when they crossed over into boy scouts from cub scouts. Kit used for all the below is called Scouts Honor by Raspberry Road.

Knitting Knee-Highs by Barb Brown

I have always loved to learn new crafts. My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was a youngster. I have picked up needlepoint, counted cross stitch, cro-hooking and more over the years. I have even tried to knit, including a sweater for my boyfriend (now husband of 27 years) and more recently a prayer shawl.

I saw this book and have to admit the thought of making some knitted socks seemed daunting but I am willing to give it a try. I paged through the book first and fell in love with many of the pictured socks. Some of my favorites are the lacy and plainer socks, instead of the highly patterned socks.

I am a person who can follow a pattern, just don't ask me to create a pattern! I have read through this books introduction, getting started and tips and tricks pages. I am still feeling daunted! Where are the photos to show us how to knit, pearl or do a stitch I have never heard of before? There is some general information in the back of the book, but I need some photos.

I think I will need to purchase a beginner's knitting book that has photos in it before I can start one of these patterns, especially one of the complicated patterned ones.

Here's hoping I can find the right book to learn how to knit, pearl and whatever, so I can get making some knee-highs!

Sectionals, February 19, Boys Bowling

Well, we did it...okay the boys varsity bowling team did it. We started out in 4th place, moved down to 5th place and rallied back with our baker games for a final spot at 3rd place. Top 7 teams moved onto Districts next Friday, Feb. 25, at Interstate Lanes in Rossford. Sorry no photos! But, please wish the team luck! We have a good boys team this year and if we get past districts...state, here we come!

Oh, the girls also did a great job and place 1st on Friday night, so also will advance to districts. They will play on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Interstate Lanes. Good luck ladies! Our girls bowling team went to state two years ago and won!!

Book Review: In Constant Prayer

In Constant Prayer by Robert Benson

In this book the author continually refers to the "daily office," but doesn't explain what this is until chapter three. A single office is a single hour of prayer, following the prayer structure of the early church, which is pretty complex. In the old church this would happen seven times per day. In more current times this would happen morning, noon and night. For most of us, we would be lucky to incorporate this into our busy lives morning and night.

The author does a good job with explaining things in the book in a down to earth manner. He has some good stories he tells, but I wasn't sure where he was going with them at times.

If you have never heard of the "daily office" before, read this book to learn more about it.

I am on a prayer journey of my own...I want to learn how to prayer properly, if there is such a thing. I enjoyed reading this book, but don't feel it will be incorporated into my prayer journey. I don't think I need to do the "daily office" to be able to talk to God.

Sandusky Bowling Tournament

Well, back on January 8, all the Eastwood Bowling teams (boys and girls JV and Varsity teams) had a clean sweep and won all four of the tournaments. First time in the history of this tournament that one school had a clean sweep. Here are my layouts....

Congrats EW Bowlers

My youngest son is on the Eastwood Bowling team. They went to the Port Clinton Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29. Keith is normally the bowler who sits out the games and comes in on the baker games. That day he was brought in half way through the second game (yes, they can do that now!). He had strikes and spares with one open for a 160 something game. The third game he bowled a 213, I think, close to that anyhow.

The boys team came in second place out of the 12 or so teams in that round. They were only 10 pins behind the first place team. So round two began, with a dozen or so new teams, while we went to lunch and did some shopping, had 3-4 hours to kill between rounds. Went back to the alley, early, and stood around for about two hours and it was very steamy...hot! The alley should of put the A/C on, because it was very warm. The bowling balls were sweating the oil from the lanes!

Oh, out of the two rounds eight boys teams went to the third round, for a total of 16 boys teams in the last round. This last round was all baker games. The best of three baker games got to continue bowling and the losing team was done...kinda like a single elimination.

Our boys won the first two bakers in the first set. They won the first, lost the second and came back and won the third to win the second round. The third round they won the first two bakers. The last round, which was the last two teams rolling off, they lost the first game, came back and won the second game 260 something to 160 something (they had 9 strikes in a row), and then won the third game with a very exciting finish of 215-213! Thanks to John P. our anchor bowler who struck out in the 10th frame! First place in the tournament!

Our varsity girls won the first round, took lunch, came back and placed second in the tournament! Four of each of the girls teams went on to the championship games, for a total of eight teams. Way to go EW girls!

I just posted two new Christmas Label kits in my digi scrapping store at DigiScrapStation.com

Both contain FIVE Christmas tag sets all in pdf format, so all you need is Adobe Acrobat (which is a free download, if you don't already have it on your computer) to open and print them off on 5160 labels (or equivalent). Note the special feature in each kit...a set of tags FROM Santa Claus! I have been using tags like this for years at home and love them because you can print, write on them and stick to the packages, no tape needed!

I have also added two new items to my store at ArtFire. I love these light and airy necklaces and earrings. They are all hand crocheted, yes with wire, by me.

The first set has tiger eye chips, topaz crystals and black beads crocheted with black wire (which will not fade or chip). It is approximately 17.5 inches long and the earrings are about 3" long. It is very light weight!

The second set has turquoise chips and round beads along with some blue crystals. The wire is actually a turquoise color too (which will not fade or chip), so all you blue lovers will love this set. Goes great with blue jeans too! The necklace is approximately 18.5 inches long and the earrings are 3" long. Both items are for sale in my ArtFire store along with other jewels.

I have several more sets partially made, so watch for some purple, another blue set and some shells coming soon!

Book Review: A Year With God

A Year with God by R.P. Nettelhorst

This book includes daily readings and reflections on God's Own words using the Old Testament.

I like how the author uses different versions of the Bible with the daily scripture readings. He then writes a few paragraphs helping us understand the text from the Bible.

I enjoy the readings very much and could see myself using this on a daily basis. I like how each day is a page, no confusion on how much to read. The Bible verses are at the top of the page and the reflections are at the bottom. Very easy to read and each page took me about 2 minutes to read. Sometimes I would go back and reread the passage or a paragraph. This book does get you thinking about your own life.

All the Bible verses used are from the Old Testament, but think about it, that is all the people had to learn from when the New Testament was written. And I hope the author will take it upon himself to write another book using the New Testament.

I would love to see the month and date at the top of each page instead of, or in addition to, the numbered day of the year. I sure don't know what number today is as I am sure most do not. It would also make the book easier to follow, because I do know today's date or can come close.

I really like the table of contents with sub-titles such as Hope and Fear, Love and Hate, Faith and Doubt and more. What I don't like is that the first 48 days we read about Hope and Fear only. Each section begins with Genesis and continues through the books of the Bible. Why not mix the categories up some? Why not begin with Genesis and go straight through the bible as it is written? What about giving us a daily Bible reading, if we choose to read it, something optional?

I have enjoyed reading this book and will continue to read it, hopefully daily, for years to come. I would recommend this for a friend or family member.

Happy Halloween with a freebie

Happy Halloween!

We had trick-or-treat last night and there were lots and lots of people out...an hour and a half is TOO long for us homeowners who are handing out candy. I am guestimating we had 300 kids come to the house and they were still coming...we ran out of candy, we went though three large bags and 5-6 smaller bags. I know the larger bags had 75-100 pieces in each bag! We also know that the kids come from out of town, because we don't recognized 75% of them!

And the candy bags are getting smaller and smaller for the chocolates! We have always tried to get chocolates for the kiddos, but that tradition is stopping! This year we did a mixture. Next year...dum dum suckers for all, they come 300 per bag!

Autumn Challenge at DigiScrapStation

More wedding layouts

I just completed these two layouts today, the first was the speed scrap at DigiScrapStation. We had to use one paper, one photo, one border (gold), 11 shapes (cut out out 11 papers, which includes the border around the image {4}, the blue skinny border over the gold border, the butterflies and the leaves, one item of stitching (heart), two epoxy elements (heart stems), four items of flight (butterflies) and one word art. I did combine the four butterflies with four of the 11 shapes...whew!

The kit is from FaithSisters, a collab kit called Celebrating Church. The word art in the first layout is by Melonie's Digital Creations.

The photos are of the kids signing their marriage certificate after the wedding, with the pastor.

Check out Rayna in the bottom left corner..."thumbs up!"

Here is another layout with the same kit for the Template Challenge at DigiScrapStation's forum (not due until 9/30/10). This is my youngest son escorting his grandmother down the isle. Grandpa is right behind them.

Here are some more wedding layouts I did last night. My SIL is going to visit my niece over the next few days so pulled out some photos of Lydia for her to take with her.

New blog look and Wedding photos

I have used one of Bloggers templates to change the look of my blog. When I saw this green one I was in love...but my banner doesn't quite match it, LOL. So will have to decide what to do about that.

I have been working on gathering some "blue" kits for my son's wedding layouts. He married a very sweet girl, Rayna, from Virginia and the wedding was June 12. We finally have a "daughter." Yeah!

So, we all gather down in Virginia for an outdoor wedding. Yeah, right, the Lord had other plans for us! About one hour before the ceremony was to begin, outside (with the reception to be outside too), a storm literally blew in. It took the guys about 10 minutes to bring in all the table decorations, table cloths, sound system, etc. This took several hours to set up mind you!

Luckily we had a "house" to put everything and everyone into. We waited for about half an hour, watching the weather on a computer, then decided to move everything about half a mile down the road to the Fellowship Hall they had reserved (thank goodness!). So the wedding took place about 50 later than it was supposed to indoors.

Everyone looked beautiful, the girls in their different colored dresses with the guys to match. Rayna was a gorgeous bride. My oldest son look handsome (okay, all three of them, two were in the wedding party, the ones in the orange and yellow shirts).

Here are some layouts I have completed. Waiting for some more photos to come and then I will have lots and lots and lots to do. LOL

First a couple of engagement layouts...still have more of those photos to do too. I used a kit called A Pocketful of Posies by Elemental Scraps for these layouts. The circular word art in the second layout is by Melonie.

A couple of the photos we got outside before the storm hit. Using the same kit A Pocketful of Posies. The beautiful bride and all her girls. Below are the flower girls. Harley, my youngest son's girlfriend, is trying to get them to smile in the one photo.

Wow...where has the time gone?

My oldest son got married June 12 in Virginia, to a very sweet girl...we love you Rayna!

I started QCing again with Misses BeeHaven, see their birthday ad below.

I am still doing the newsletter, Keeping on Track, at DigiScrapStation (and I have to get working on this weeks!).

I still have the group ScrapKitChallenge, though participation is at an all time LOW! Hummm...

And, I started making some more jewelry to sell at KathysScrapsStore.com (come check it out). I still have a few more pieces to post.

I completed this year's fair book in record time for the Pemberville Free Fair.

Oh yeah, I am still working 6 hours every day as the secretary at my church, Bethlehem Lutheran.

Two new layouts

Here are two layouts I completed with Snowsmoon's Design (Dawn Mills) kit called May Flowers. The layouts are from my grandmother's 95th birthday...wish we could of been there (they live 15 hours away, but we did get to see her in October). She got this cute floppy eared dog. My mom said it sang and danced and the ears went up and down and she really got a kicked out of it (like a little kid). Look at her smile and look at it in the center photo.

Happy Easter to everyone! We are going to my SILs for ham. I am bringing mac and cheese (crock pot version), a relish tray and a new cake recipe I just found in Taste of Home's Light Cooking, April/May 2010 edition.

I also made up some crystal Crosses from a kit I had for several years. My husband helped me put them all together yesterday so we will hand them out later today. However, I wanted a tag to go with them so they knew who they were getting the Crosses from and the year. I made up a tag using my Easter Blessings kit, see below. Here are some more layouts of the Eastwood girls varsity bowling team. These ladies are awesome. They won the season and the Port Clinton Invitational this past weekend! Way to go ladies!! The boys didn't fair as well and struggled the whole day. They did make it through three baker sets but lost just before the finals. Good practice for Sectionals, District and State, all coming up the next couple of weekends! Good luck to both the boys and girls!

A Christmas Story layouts

My BIL, SIL, husband and myself went on a Star Tours of Ohio bus trip in early December 2009 to see the actual house from “A Christmas Story” movie. We also got to see a live rendition of the movie that was very good.

Here are two layouts I created using the kit “Sweet Winter” by Lilas. This is a wonderful wintery kit with some really neat swirls of snow you can add to your layouts. One of them is under the sleigh in my first layout below. She has 23 paper in this kit along with more than 80 elements, some you see below.

Congrats EW boys varsity bowling team

The Eastwood bowling team won a lot yesterday at the SBABC Tournament in Sandusky, Ohio. Congratulations to all!

The JV and Varsity girls won first place in both of their divisions. One of the girls won top series for a scholarship award.

The Varsity boys, which my youngest son, Keith, is on that team, won first place and each received a medal and plaque. They were in second place after the first game but pulled ahead after game three. They then had to play five baker games. Luckily they had a 200 plus game for their first baker game. They pulled ahead a little more. Then they started to struggle in the baker games and just kept their lead. By the fifth game we had to get a 159 baker game to tie, a 160 to win. The boys pulled off a 161! Wow, won by just two pins. Of course, the boys did not know how close they had come, just that they were close!

Tommy also won top series for a scholarship award.

I have always loved doing different craft items growing up. I have done crochet, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, macramé, and many other hand made items. The only talent I don’t have is drawing, my mom and my oldest son have that talent!

I still enjoy crocheting and crohooking and about a year or so ago got into beading, or making my own jewelry. I have always loved jewelry so I guess that was a natural thing to get into. Just like I have always enjoyed creating on my computer so digital scrapping was a natural.

Well, I have finally opened a brand new store with all my “stuff” in it, called, of course, Kathy’s Scraps. Scraps is referring to my crochet scarves, crochet dish cloths, jewelry items and digital items…all of which I have hand or computer created.

Here is my gift to you…three sheets of Christmas labels to replace all those labels you used up this year. All you have to do is open the pdf file and print it on a 5160 label sheets. The labels will peal off and stick on your package. I have been using these types of labels for years. No tape! LOL I hope you enjoy them. I used Maddy Fernandez’s Away in a Manager kit to create these.

I am working on some layouts for a friends wedding we went to in October, in Maryland. They had a fall, outdoor, wedding and it was beautiful, so I am using fall kits. Here are the first two layouts I have completed. Scott get me the rest of your photos!!

I know, it's been awhile, I have been on Facebook (see link on left), so if you are on FB send me a friend request. I have found that Farm Town game and am truly addicted to it, LOL. Just a simple game where you plant fields, watch them grow, harvest them, plant again, all to earn coins to purchase things for your farm...plants, trees, animals, houses, and more. One great feature is that you can send friends FREE gifts every day! LOL

I have also been busy with doing a weekly newsletter for Digi Scrap Station. It's fun and I have enjoyed doing one again. Here is our June 25 newsletter, called Keeping On Track. If you are a digi scrapper and want good quality products then I advise you to NOT use anything from RESALE CLIPART!

I have purchased EIGHT kits from them with the intent to resell them (because they do allow that) but the quality of the images is NOT good. Most of them are only at 72 dpi (some are 200, but very scattered through out the kits I purchased).

You do need to watch because these items can be resold in other stores but they MUST say they are from Resale Clipart in the previews, according to their terms.

Yes, I have contacted them two or three times within the past two weeks and given them a file by file report of what I have found and no one has returned my emails. So, I feel I have no choice than to write and post this on my blog. I am considering posting this in the Yahoo Groups too...but have not done so yet. LOL

Update: 6/6, well I did post this in a few Yahoo Groups and the owner of ResaleClipart did see it and has banned me from her store and threatened me.

Why can't people just be honest and do what is right? I did not want to do this but on the other hand don't want others to purchase inferior products and not be able to use them. And the thing is MANY digi stores are selling these items under different designers names. So watch previews of these products in other stores.

So here is the breakdown of the eight kits. There are a total of 72 graphics in these eight kits. 56 of them are at 72 dpi, 15 of them are at 200 dpi, and 3 of them are at 300 dpi (300 is industry standard).

BTW: Her comment to me in her last email and I quote:
"DO NOT CONTACT ME I am selling my clipart AS IS you purchased older sets my current stuff is 300 DPI and we DO NOT advertise our stuff as PERFECT For srapbookers you are absolutely getting on my nerves"

So, in her own words her stuff is not perfect for scrapbookers. Okay, now we know! Thank you!

I was busy yesterday at DigiScrapStation's crop! Nancy had some great challenges and I completed six layouts, all in one day!

The first one (which was the last one I did last night) is of my oldest son and his girlfriend at her prom. Aren't they cute! This was for a challenge to use a photo mask, which I had never done before, and it was soooo easy!

The next two are of our kitchen that my DH has been remodeling since June of last year. Here is the kitchen the way it looked in June...the kit I used was my Home Improvement kit that you can find for free below (for the month of May).

Here is the kitchen today. We have one more thing to get and that is the refrigerator, LOL, we know what type we want, but have to find the right one...and boy are they expensive! And too many choices!! But we have found that with everything in this project.

Happy Easter weekend...I have had a busy two weeks! I joined an admin team with another store, which will remain nameless, and was trying to settle in with them. At the same time our person who does the newsletters at DSS left. I was offered the position of doing the DigiScrapStation newsletter and took it! I did the NL at 3S for 18 months and enjoyed it. So, I figured I resigned from the other position because there is only so much time in a day! So...watch for a new NL at DigiScrapStation next week!

My youngest son, Keith, is going on a mission trip with his aunt and uncle this summer. They are going to El Salvador to help build 75 homes with Thrivent Builds (Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity).

Well, we had a big weekend with the high school varsity bowling teams in Lima. The boys lost Friday night, actually came in last place, but had fun. The girls played on Saturday and after 3 regular games and 6 baker games we weren't sure what they had placed. They had to make it in one of the first two spots....and they made it!! They got second place, so will go to state this coming weekend.

Well, late again, but better late than never. Just got the okay from my girlfriend, Linda Walton, that I could post the quick pages I made using her kit...Love Me Tender...what a gorgeous kit!! Thanks Linda.

If you have a kit that I can use in making QPs every week, please let me know. I will be leaning towards springy kits or maybe some St. Paddy's day kits.

Some more catching up...here are the last few layouts I did for the ADSR race, which is now over...waiting to see who won! I had a lot of fun with my partner, Lori Cameron...and she went through a lot the few months we were together working on this. For Challenge #10 Lori had to ask me at least 5 questions and post the answers in a layout with a photo. I gave her the photo. I had done a layout in a previous challenge, so this was all her's. LOL This is what she did...isn't it wonderful! I told her my favorite colors were green and purple since she could only use two main colors. Thanks Lori for creating this for me!

For Challenge #11 we had to ask ONE question to one person using only one photo. We could not answer the question, just ask it. This is my layout...

And in Challenge #12 we had to answer this question...more than 50% of the layout had to be journaling. They even told us to include a photo of each of us and place it in the lower right hand corner. We had to include 5 elements. Lori sent me her photo and her text and I put it all together...

I have to confess that I have not taken a photo every day...just don't see a point in taking a photo when there is nothing happening! But, I have been better at taking my camera with me and being prepared to take a shot when something does happen.

Generations...

Have a photo of at least two generations of family members

Must have something metal
Must have at least one flower
Must have at lease one vintage or retro style element

I choose photos of my grandmother, mother, my sister and myself for a three generation layout.
The pink lace was from a CU kit from Scrappy Cats.
The other pieces were all from a kit called Tea Time by Barbara Chewning.
My metal piece is the paperclip, my flowers are the roses on the envelope and my vintage piece is the teacup.
Font used is Bodoni BT

With the scraplift I didn't make the image as large as Dawn's because I like the rose shape above the heart frame (didn't want to cover it up).

Snow...snow...snow...

Are we getting sick of the white, fluffy stuff yet...you bet! We got 6-8" last night into today (it stopped about noon). I also had to drive home from a bowling match last night in it...NOT fun! Took two hours to get home, normally would take about an hour. Kids were off of school today, even the college closed for my middle son. Wonder if they will have school tomorrow?

So, I scrapped a layout with some photos I took today. It is for the Amazing Digital Scrapping Race (ADSR). I had to use ALL the pieces in a mini kit they gave us, called Sunrise Special, created by the team at Sunshine Studio Scraps. Here it is...

So, onto challenge #8, which has to be done by Sunday! Got to go in search of a layout I like to scraplift...see ya soon!

Well, the sun came out Friday and Saturday and it actually went above freezing for a short while. Tonight we are back down to 15 and tomorrow's high is predicted at a chilling 20 degrees! Burrr!!!

These photos were taken in August 2008 when my son came home with his girlfriend, Rayna, for the first time. We went to Put in Bay for the day. These photos were taken inside Crystal Cave.

Inauguration Day, 1/20/09, My son works for the FBI and today, unexpectedly, was stationed on Pennsylvania Avenue (instead of at his building). He was in the crowds, in uniform, protecting and watching. He said it was very cold and he was literally shivering, but seemed excited to be a part of history!

Project 365 QP freebie

Okay, so I am a day late...we had a bowling tournament this morning for my youngest son's high school varsity team. It was an hour away and in the snow it took longer. It started at 8 a.m. so we went the night before and stayed in a hotel with some of the other team mates. The boys had a great time...except for the bowling, LOL. They did great the first game with a 906 and were in second place, after the second and third games they were in fourth place. After the 5 baker games, we don't know yet, other than they did not come in first or second. But...the varsity girls won, first place, wooo hooo!!! Awesome job Eastwood varsity girls! Not sure what the JV teams for boys or girls did.

ADSR Race, Challenge #4

ADSR Race, Challenge #4, something artistic.

2 paint smears, CU, by Dindy Doerksen. I used a color from the background for the smears.
Canvas background, Butterfly digi kit (don't know the name of the designer, sorry)
Photo has a watercolor filter on it, from Photoshop.
Photo also has a painted edge on it using Atomic Cupcakes action. Picked a color from the photo.
Frame with text is also from the Butterfly digi kit.
Fonts: Scrap Rhapsody and Arial Narrow.

ADSR Race, Challenge #3

I have been participating in the ADSR race with Lori Cameron from DSS. The first challenge was the layout using the Holiday Sparkle kit by Linda Walton, where we had to tear a photo into three pieces. It is in a previous post. The second challenge we had to both make one layout with the theme "cabin fever" and had to include certain items. Both of us did a mini layout (4x6) and put them on top of a photo Lori had. Here is the layout....

Challenge #3 we had to take the first layout we posted to a gallery somewhere and redo it using newer techniques. We could use a different kit, but all wording and the original photo had to be reused. So, I went and looked in a few galleries and found this one at Gotta Pixel of my son Keith.

I redid the layout with one of my kits called 100% boy. One thing I have a hard time with is getting away from always centering items and having perfect balance in my layouts. While that is good at times, this time I wanted to get away from that. So here is my new version of Keith and summer camp...

I have actually taken a photo every day this year...so far, LOL! Most days I have taken several of DH doing the crown molding on our cabinets in the kitchen. Poor dear, what a job!! It has not been fun! I don't think I am going to post just the photos here, I want to make them up into layouts before posting.

Here is a freebie for the 365 project. My quick pages will have three or four "holes" in them for your photos. You can use both of these pages for one week of photos (7 in all) or use one page and choose your photos to do one weekly layout. Or, if you take several photos a day, use one layout for one day. And if you forget to take a photo please check out the options posted below...there are some great ideas there.

365 pic a day project challenge

Okay, if you haven't started yet...it's still not too late...in fact you can begin at any time! Just make your 365 days begin when you begin! EASY!!

Here is another site that has a spot for the 365 Project (as most are calling it). If you join you will get a FREE kit available through this Thursday...so what are you waiting for...oh, yeah, the link...here you go:
DigiScrap101, join first, then go to Groups and join the Project 365 group.

One of the gals, Crystal, posted this and I thought it was wonderful so am posting here on my blog with credit to her for writing it...

If you're like me, & you happen to miss a day here & there, here's some ideas for you...

- Use that day to record something you're grateful for
- Download a photo off of Flickr that caught your eye & write what you like about it
- Use that space for "eye candy" & put some pretty paper or an embellishment there
- Insert a favorite quote, scripture or a "thought for the week"
- Use a picture from the past & write a memory about it
- You don't HAVE to put a picture in every spot, so whatever you do, don't stress about it or give up on the challenge. Be creative & have fun! Remember this is a way to "simplify" scrapbooking in a meaningful way.

One last thought...

If you keep up on this project throughout the year and only take and document 15-20 photos/month, do you think you'll look back and be disappointed? Heck no!! You'll be so glad that you didn't give up & you'll still have a year's worth of memories recorded...woohoo! So, go ahead, call it the "225 Challenge" if you want, but make it meaningful for YOU!
